In Episode 7: Like the sugar cane crop in the Caribbean, South Carolina needed an export crop for England and the king. Rice production filled that need. But, the labor required to make it work was a challenge. Rice required tidal swamps to be re-claimed and thousands to plant and harvest the crop. Only human slavery would make it work. The slaves built a system that would generate a wealth unlike anything ever seen in its day. The Rice Kings were born!
